Mann: Redefining Psychiatry & Mental Health in India

At Mann, we focus on real healing which occurs when science meets the soul. Standard psychiatry focuses mainly on our brain and mind, but we know that mental wellbeing is closely linked to our mann—our heart, soul.

Here we don’t only talk about mental health, we talk about mann’s health. Mental health problems are not just health problems, or chemical problems. They are strong inter-personal experiences that change the way we perceive ourselves and others . When someone is depressed, chronically anxious or has complex conditions such as schizophrenia, not only their mind is affected but also their mann and ripples outward to affect their entire family.

Addressing the Gap in Indian Mental Healthcare

In India, the term rehab is mainly used in relation to substance addiction. But what about the millions of people silently suffering mental health disorders?

Bipolar disorder, clinical depression and schizophrenia, etc all need a dedicated, supportive environment to recover. But traditional options mostly involves medications which while helping the patient also alters the brain chemistry and never works on the spirit.

This space is called Mann because we believe that when life takes a toll on your mental health, both your mind and your mann need a safe space to recover and heal.

Our goal is to bridge the gap between standard psychiatric care and holistic healing.

Overcoming the Stigma, Integrating Holistic Healing

Mental health has been an uncomfortable topic to discuss in Indian society. I’m so thankful to have grown up in a family that was always willing to discuss about mental health and put it above everything else. But I know that’s not the case for everyone.

All my life I have seen mental health problems very closely and understood them at a level that goes way beyond a textbook diagnosis. I know what anxiety does to our daily life, what depression does to our self-identity and what these things do to our personal relationships.

We want to change the narrative and spread awareness that Mental health is a big part of our heart and soul because it impacts how you relate to yourself and everyone around you.
